Santa Claus Is Coming To Town…

Filed Under: Family, Special Needs Tagged With: carsyn, cerebral palsy, Holoprosencephaly

Carsyn wore this outfit last year before we even knew anything was wrong with him. This is the only positive of him not growing. He got to wear it again and I actually got to take photos of him sitting up in it.  I still can not believe he is already 19 Months old. Only 5 months till he turns two. It is very bittersweet for me still but I am hoping it does get easier as time passes, like Ellen said in a recent post.

He is doing awesome at sitting up. His therapist are very pleased with his progress and how well he does. He is pretty good at catching himself but he still falls over at times.

He LOVES sweets. I mean really loves sweets. He will get very angry if you take away his sweets.

He is happy and loving. He is starting to wave bye bye. It is so sweet.

Carsyn cracks up at everything now. It is hilarious. Dustyn can always make him laugh. I love to hear them laughing together.

We are working on crawling right now. He gets so frustrated. He wants to do it so badly. I love his determination, but I hate to see him struggle.

Carsyn seriously gets so much attention every where we go. Everyone thinks he is a typical baby. I really hate having to tell them how old he actually is. Then the next question is whether he is walking. Then I feel like I have to explain everything. It is really hard.

This is one of my favorite photos and I plan on using it in my Top 11 of 11. Are you going to join us? Lots of awesome prizes to giveaway. You can find out more information here.

Ahhhh. . . it sounds like he's doing fantastic. I know that Carsyn has a different diagnosis than Charlie, but sitting before your second birthday is pretty huge from a rehabilitation perspective--have they told you that? I don't know what to tell you about the nosy store people. It was hard when Charlie was younger, but now they can either tell or I just don't bother explaining anything. Just remember, just because somebody talks to you, you don't owe them an explanation or anything. If you don't want say how old he is, don't. If they ask if he's walking you can just say, "he's into everything!," which isn't a lie really, but saves you from dealing with the awkwardness. Again, you don't owe anyone anything--it's up to you how much you choose to share. I usually say, "no, but he's a little delayed--I'm sure he'll be there soon!" That's all I explain. And some days I just ignore strangers and keep truckin.

Love these pictures! I'm so sorry you have to explain things to a complete stranger...I can relate to an extent. Kate was 19 months before she started walking and everywhere we went people would ask how old she was and if she was walking. And when they found out that she wasn't, they would act surprised. I always wanted to ask, "If you expect that a child that age is walking, then why even ask?" It always made me so angry. But, then again, they're both stunningly gorgeous children, so I suppose people can't help but pay extra attention to them ;)

I love his Santa suit Sarah! I know it's hard having a child with special needs and having to explain things when people do not know or understand. My son too has special needs, although grown, he will need help for the rest of his life. It's not always easy, especially when they can't see it. Lori
