Transitioning Your Dog To A New Dog Food

Like many other families our dogs are a big part of ours. Kenny and I picked them out when they were puppies and they are now 10 & 11 years old. That means I have spent a third of my life with these dogs. That is just crazy! Since they are such an important part of our life I know that when changing their food to a new food we need to do so slowly. I made a little chart on transitioning your dog to a new dog food. The first 1-3 days you want to do about 25% new food, days 4-6 50% new food, days 7-9 75% new food, and by day 10 you can do 100% new food.
Transitioning Your Dog To A New Dog FoodWe recently switched our dogs to Purina Pro Plan Bright Mind available at Pet Smart.

About Purina Pro Plan
When dogs reach 7 years old they are considered to be a senior, and according to experts at Purina Pro Plan, the glucose metabolism in a dog’s brain begins to change. This can affect their memory, learning, awareness or decision making. There are about 87 million dogs in the U.S. alone and an estimated 44% of them are seven years and older. Purina Pro Plan discovered a way to promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs over 7 years old through nutrition. That is where the BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+ formulas come into play. It contains enhanced botanical oils shown to help promote alertness and mental sharpness with visible results within 30 days. When you add this to the daily diet of dogs it helps their memory, attention and trainability. Owners may notice differences in owner-dog interaction, interest in play and the ability to adapt and cope with change.

I was a little worried with how the dogs would react when we first had Dustyn seven years ago, but they love having the boys to play with. They are really great and gentle with Carsyn and don’t mind him being a little rough when he tries to pet them or drooling all over them.

CarsynandDudley

Here is a cute little video of Dustyn and Carsyn with Dixie and Dudley. I made this using our new GoPro, some of the video Dixie or Dudley is wearing the GoPro and the other parts I took the video.

What do you normally do while transitioning your dog to a new dog food?

My pup has a particularly sensitive stomach so it can take 2+ weeks to switch foods... fortunately we've found something we both like for kibble!

It was a nice secluded spot that we might just make our new spot. The kids had a blast, I am glad it stays shallow here plus we didn’t have to worry about waves.

Project 365 photo catch up. Can’t believe it is Project 365 photo catch up. Can’t believe it is almost the end of May! Had my hair trimmed yesterday, and my eyebrows tinted. The eyebrow dye last for about 4-6 weeks. It gradually lightens up over time. I included the photo of Annie after she did her “makeup”. This project 365 isn’t looking like I thought it would. I was hoping to use my DSLR more but end up just using my phone and using random photos I take during the day. Nothing specific or set up pretty, but it works. I’m still capturing memories.

Got a little hot at one point and the water was too cold for me to get in but just kept dipping my feet in the water to cool down. Unfortunately I got a terrible headache in the afternoon so had to cut the trip a little short. Next time I need to remember to bring medicine. Not sure what’s been going on lately but the last few days I have gotten headaches in the afternoon.
