Show & Tell: Cokie

Today is my Grandma’s 82nd Birthday. Her name is Colleen {Cokie} Dixon. DSC_1983 She has been through a lot in her 82 years. Lost her husband to a heart attack when he was 49 years old. Lost her 1st born daughter Denise at 3 years old from leukemia. Has a son Joey who is now married. Then Johnny who was in a car accident when he was 18 years old, right before he graduated high school. He had severe head trauma and has been in a nursing home ever since. She used to walk from her house to the nursing home every day, probably about 2 miles each way. Now she is unable to walk that far. She goes any time someone will give her a ride. After Johnny she had my Mom, who of course is married to my Dad and had my sister, Beth, and me. Robert, her last son, was in a horrible accident. He was hit while walking down the side of the road. He passed away at the young age of 39. Then she had Joanne her last daughter, who is now married with two kids, Denise {named after Joanne’s sister} and Wes. Most of the time when I see her {which isn’t often enough}, I forget everything that has happened to her. After everything she has been through she is still here. She is still amazing. To me she is what everyday beauty is. I love her.

Awww, this reminds me of the Broken and Beautiful piece I wrote the other day. Your grandmother has seen some really rough days and still she stands. From her weathered hands to her wise, wrinkled face...I love it all. She is the epitome of beauty.
Thanks so much for stopping by. Happy birthday to your grandma. :)
