Baby Editing Tutorial

A friend of mine, Annie, over at Mama Dweeb asked me to edit this photo of her adorable daughter. This is her at 6 weeks old. Isn’t she precious? By the way if you have a photo you would like me to edit you can email it to me [email protected] I would love the challenge.

Here is the SOOC:

First I opened in ACR in Photoshop Elements. If you don’t have the actually RAW file you can click on Open As  then choose the RAW file.

Here are my adjustments

This is the picture just after those couple adjustments

After that I ran Coffee Shop’s Baby Powder Room. They have good instructions on their site, but this is what I did.

I used the Lighten Skin at 20% for the darker spots of her sweet face. Then I used the Smooth Skin at 10% and went over her face. Then used the eye define at 100% and went over her eyes. Now on Carsyn’s I will use the Red Skin Removal tool on his chapped cheek, but I didn’t have to do that on this photo.

Then cropped and sharpened for the web. For that I created a duplicate layer {ctrl+j} and went to enhance unsharp mask my amount was 125, radius 1 and threshold 3.  So this would be my clean edit.

Here is my black and white. I used Pioneer Woman’s Black & White Beauty Action. I have tried to create my own black and white, but I really love the way hers looks.

Then here is a fun edit using Coffee Shops Vintage Honey. I usually adjust the layers to my liking.

Another favorite action of mine is Pioneer Woman’s Seventies.

What do you think? Which one do you like better? If you have any questions feel free to ask and I will try and put a post together to answer your questions. Thanks!

Thank you Sarah - I love it!! I am going to take your tips and do them on other pictures too - I especially love how you brightened her eyes. I have wanted to learn how to make my kid's eyes POP in pictures and never got the hang of it. I am going to check out that coffee shop tutorial and mess around with it. Thanks again!!

6 weeks ago I cut off the top of my Monstera Adans 6 weeks ago I cut off the top of my Monstera Adansonii because it was very tall but not bushy. It was nerve wracking at first. I had 5 total cuttings that I put into water. 4 of the pieces had roots longer than 2 inches with some secondary roots. The last piece is still in water, it has some roots but not enough, so giving it a bit more time. Where I cut it is also making a new stem and I noticed further down it was trying to branch out in other places. Hopefully it takes off this Summer and becomes fuller looking.

Freaking freezing soccer nights. 🥶🥶🥶 It Freaking freezing soccer nights. 🥶🥶🥶

It was soooo cold out there tonight even with the sun. The wind was whipping. It may have been in the 40s but the wind chill was in the low 30s. I think my face is wind burned. Annie did a great job playing tonight and was trying so hard to make a goal. The other team was short on players, so one of her teammates was goalie and did an awesome job stopping the ball. Annie tried a new strategy of holding the ball in between her feet until the other team gives up. 🤣 There is one clip of Prestyn (# 13). His games are harder to take video of cause his field is so big.

Today while eating lunch I told her it was close to coming out and we would need to pull it before bed. While eating chicken teriyaki she thought she swallowed it and spit out the chicken in her mouth. I dug through it and it wasn’t there. She started freaking out. Then looked on the chair and it was sitting right there. 🤣 A similar thing happened with Prestyn on one of his bottom teeth. My kids never want to pull them out until they fall out on their own. Ha.

So it was growing soooooo slow. I finally repotted it a couple weeks ago, moved it closer to a window, and started using plant food from @happyhappyhouseplant. Not sure what made the most difference but the leaf opened and now a new one is already starting. Hoping it won’t take as long this time.
