Photo Tip Tuesday: Out of Focus

The lovely Branson from My Reflection of Something asked about out of focus shots. My inspiration is Katie from Katie Lloyd Photography.  I am NOT as good as her but she is inspiring.

Basically what you want to is set your camera lens to manual focus. Then you want to make your subject, I use mainly my boys, out of focus but not so out of focus that you can not see it. Take this photo. That blue blob is Dustyn. I think I could have made it a little less unfocused.

Here are some side by sides of the boys.

Another favorite is trees. When you make them out of focus it makes beautiful bokeh. Not too out of focus that you can’t tell what it is. You just need to play with it.

Seriously if you want to know more about out of focus shots you need check out Katie’s blog.

Please pray for us today. We are taking Carsyn to his rehab appointment. They will be the ones to decide if he should get botox injections or start taking valium. This is for his high muscle tone. To relax him, but it is hard to find the right dose so that he isn’t too floppy. I feel like this is a big decision. I don’t want to make the wrong one. I am very nervous. I will be sure to update after the appointment sometime.

ooo praying for y'all today. I can't imagine how hard some of those decisions must be as a mom. I did an out of focus bride this weekend with in-focus luggage in front of her - can't wait to process them :)

I love your our of focus shots! Especially the trees! I always forget to try this because I'm sooo addicted to auto-focus, but the result can be really cool!

I really like the trees ones, but have to admit that I'm not fond of people ones being so out of focus. :-) I want to see the babies beautiful faces!

I've learned to love out of focus shots thanks to Katie also! When I'm reviewing photos on my computer, my youngest will often look at them with me and say, "Um, Mom, that one is blurry!"
